Most of our Indian languages have at least a few similar words. Only the pronunciation might be different, or a variation of the word is used in the colloquial / spoken Kannada.
Egs. ”namaskaara” in Kannada is “namaskaar” in Hindi and some other Indian languages also.
“swaagatha”in Kannada is “swaagath” in Hindi and most Indian languages
“sahaya” in Kannada is “sahayatha” in Hindi
For all other kannada vocabulary, you have to learn the word & for some remember it by knowing its equivalent in your mothertongue.
It will be helpful if you group the words being learnt under separate topics for easy learning. For eg., one day you can learn all words related to vegetables, another day, only numbers and so on.
You can also keep a notepad handy & write down the Kannada word in your mothertongue just as it is pronounced. Several professionals who used this method learnt to speak Kannada properly without getting frustrated. And in a shorter period of time.
BTW, please note that the language “Kannada” is called “Kannada” in all languages of the world, even in Hindi. Many North Indians refer to “kannada” as “kannad” which is totally wrong and irks every kannadiga who hears it.
How to learn and remember Kannada Phrases when I speak?
Think of a situation where you would use the same phrase in English or your mothertongue.
Associate that phrase with that particular situation & use it everytime you face that situation.
Eg. Greetings—when you meet someone, you would say, ”namaskaara, neevu hegidheera?” in Kannada, meaning ”hello, how are you?” or “namasthe, aap kayse hai?” in Hindi or in your mother tongue.
